Ingredients

Actives and Acids

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)

AHAs are chemical exfoliants and help smooth skin and encourage cell turnover which aids in the prevention of skin blemishes and bumps. We use a fruit derived and gentle AHA in our Body Cleanser .02 at an inclusion that is suitable for daily cleansing.

(Ingredient name: Water, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract)

Glycerin (Glycerin)

An all time, go to humectant, meaning it preserves moisture and reduces the loss of moisture in the skin. Glycerin is found naturally in skin so adding it to formulas helps to replenish and restore skin, maintain a good look and feel and prevent dryness.

Inulin (Inulin, Fructose)

This is our pre-biotic ingredient, extracted from chicory root, it works to preserve the health and look of your skin by protecting, balancing and feeding the skin microbiota – a shield of microorganisms (skin flora) that cover the physical skin barrier (epidermis). Our skin’s microbiome is its first barrier and needs to be balanced and preserved just like our gut.

Niacinamide (Niacinamide)

Also known as Vitamin B3, this ingredient is sort after and for good reason. Niacinamide helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss which in turns boosts hydration, improves dullness and uneven skin tones, as an antioxidant it protects against UV light damage and other environmental factors and reduces enlarged pores.

Olive Squalane (Squalane)

Olive derived, squalane is a skin replenisher (meaning it is found naturally in the skin, in sebum to be specific) of fatty acids and antioxidants to fight skin damage. It is also a superior hydrator by creating a barrier to keep moisture in and boosts collagen production for firmer skin.

Waterin (Saccharide Isomerate)

Provides deep and instant hydration that lasts after wash-off, protecting against skin dryness and dehydration, strengthening of the skin barrier function and preventing post-shower dryness.

Vitamins

Vitamin B5 (D-Panthenol/Panthenol)

Is considered a skin protectant with anti-inflammatory properties but is best at reinforcing the skin barrier which allows the skin to better retain moisture and thus keep better hydration. It’s also a great skin smoother and has a soothing effect for sensitive skin.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

The golden child of ingredients, Vitamin E is an antioxidant and skin protectant which occurs naturally in our skin but can be diminished through environmental exposure. Applying it topically helps to prevent the product of free radicals which can damage and age the skin.

Oils and Emollients [skin softeners]

Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima Oil)

Full of fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids – all help to replenish, smooth, soften and firm skin and strengthen its barrier.

Berry Fruit Wax (Rhus Verniciflua Peel Cera)

A 100% natural wax made from the peels of berries the grow on the commonly named ‘Chinese Lacquer Tree’. It is used to give a super soft and silky feel to formulas as a vegan alternative to beeswax and as an emollient to soften skin.

Borage Oil (Borago officinalis Oil)

A light oil with high concentrations of fatty acids and a great anti-inflammatory impact for skin conditions, redness and irritated skin.

Caprylic Capric Triglyceride

Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, it’s considered an excellent emollient (skin softener) and skin replenisher, providing a great source of fatty acids that help replenish the skin and prevent moisture loss. It can also help the penetration of other ingredients and enables better spreadability of a product.

Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera Oil)

Needs no introduction. A rich source of fatty acids, an effective emollient (skin softener) and excellent moisturiser.

Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil)

It’s not only an excellent emollient, fast absorbing and great for chapped skin – it has a similar structure to sebum (the skins own natural moisturiser) and can help balance out your complexion the way sebum naturally does.

Marula Oil (Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil)

Antioxidant rich, hydrates skin and great source of fatty acids and amino acids for the skin.

Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil)

Its primary purpose is as an emollient to soften skin and a very reliable and non-fragrant carrier oil for essential oils and fragrance.

Surfactants [cleansing agents]

Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside

Is a vegetable derived gentle surfactant used as a cleansing agent in our body cleansers.  It is made from vegetable derived fatty acids and glucose, gives extra lather and foam to our cleansers and is also a good solubiliser which we need to allow oils and fragrance oils to mix with water in our formulas.

Cocoyl Wheat Amino Acids (Sodium Cocoyl Wheat Amino Acids)

Is a naturally derived and gentle surfactant used as a cleansing agent in our body cleansers. Derived from coconut fatty acids and wheat amino acids, it protects the hydrolipidic film (protective film) of the skin which makes it a more gentle and sensitive skin friendly cleansing agent.

Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate+Cocamidopropyl Betaine+Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate+Sodium Methyl Oleoyl Taurate

A surfactant blend that is plant derived and biodegradable, used as a concentrated cleansing and stabilising agent specifically for cleanser formulas that are sulfate (SLS and SLES) free.

Functionals

Emulsifiers and Thickeners

An emulsifier is used to allow oil and water to mix and some are also used for their moisturising properties. Thickeners not only help with consistency and feel, they also regulate how much product is dispensed and used from a pack. The emulsifiers and thickeners we use are either naturally derived or biochemically created, biodegradable and/or ECOCERT and COSMOS approved. We also use one synthetic thickener.

Preservative (Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid (and) Glycerin, Sorbic Acid)

We use a natural preservative ingredient approved by ECOCERT and COSMOS in our formulas. Preservatives play an important role in skincare, preventing the growth of bacteria, yeast and moulds through the shelf-life and use of a product.

Sodium Chloride and Sodium Hydroxide

These two ingredients are used to stabilise the pH of a formula. The pH of skin and skincare refers to how acidic or alkaline it is and is key to supporting the acid mantle and skin barrier and preventing things like tightness, dryness, sensitivity, breakouts.  We need to keep the pH within a tight balance specific to each product and its purpose, which is generally between pH 4 to 7 and as pH can move over time and through exposure to different temperatures, we need to keep it balanced.

Fragrance

Parfum (Fragrance)

Our fragrances are complex in their scent profiles therefore each fragrance contains a variety of ingredients – with a mix of essential oils, naturally derived fragrances and synthetic fragrances.  The term Parfum is used as its part of our regulatory requirement but also because the fragrance blends, even when made bespoke for us, remain protected. Any allergens (above a certain level) that exist from natural or synthetic fragrances or from any other ingredient are marked with an astrix (*).
